Bethany United Church of Christ

A Brief History

The United Church of Christ acknowledges Jesus Christ as its Lord and Master.  Our church recognizes the Holy Scriptures as the authority for our life of faith, along with the ancient and modern Creeds and writings of Christian tradition.  We believe that the Holy Spirit is still inspiring people who are faithful to the Church.

Our local church history involves three Congregations.  New Elm Reformed Church was founded in 1850.  New Bethel Evangelical Church was founded in 1867.  First Reformed Church was formed in 1909.  A merger in 1961 of these three congregations established Bethany United Church of Christ in its present location.

The United Church of Christ is a united and a uniting Fellowship.  We are an “open” church, admitting to our fellowship and sacraments and all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord.
